Strengthening Sepsis Awareness at Home

At Elara Caring, our commitment to helping patients recover safely at home drives everything we do. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Sepsis Alliance in a powerful public-private collaboration focused on improving sepsis awareness, early identification and care in the home health setting. Together, we’re working to ensure patients, caregivers and care teams have the tools, knowledge and confidence to act quickly because early recognition saves lives.

What Is Sepsis?

Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to infection. It affects 1.7 million people each year and takes an estimated 270,000 lives in the U.S. alone. Understanding the warning signs is essential, especially for individuals recovering at home after a hospital stay.

Common symptoms of sepsis include:

  • A temperature that is higher or lower than normal
  • Signs or symptoms of infection
  • Mental decline such as confusion or difficulty waking
  • Extreme illness, severe pain or shortness of breath

Sepsis is a medical emergency. Every hour treatment is delayed, the risk of death increases by as much as 8%.

A Partnership That Protects Patients

Through our partnership with Sepsis Alliance, our team implements evidence-based, lifesaving protocols that support earlier recognition and faster action across our skilled home health teams. This includes training for all clinicians and accessible education for patients and caregivers, empowering everyone involved to spot signs of sepsis early and respond immediately.

Skilled Home Health: Helping You Stay Safe at Home

Elara Caring’s skilled home health services help patients manage their health at home safely and reduce the likelihood of hospitalization by:

  • Monitoring for signs of infection or health changes
  • Supporting early identification of sepsis symptoms
  • Coordinating care with physicians and specialists
  • Reinforcing prevention practices to lower risk

And when questions or concerns arise, we’re here—day and night.

As part of skilled home health, our clinicians are just a phone call away 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If something doesn’t feel right, we want you to call us first. We’re ready to listen, guide, and take action whenever you need us.

By working together, we can elevate awareness, improve outcomes and help more people stay healthy and safe where they heal best: at home.
