Home Care for Low Vision Patients

What is low vision?

Low vision is a vision issue that makes a person’s everyday activities more difficult. Things like seeing the television, reading and distinguishing objects or colors may be a struggle. Low vision issues can’t be entirely corrected with glasses or contact lenses, medication or surgery.

What causes low vision?

There are many causes of low vision. Health diagnoses such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy can create low vision problems. Genetics or physical trauma could also cause low vision. Fortunately, aging alone is not a trigger for low vision.

How can home care help low vision patients?

While there isn’t a cure for low vision, in-home rehabilitation like Elara Caring’s Eye Care We Care program can make navigating daily life much easier.

What is Elara Caring’s Eye Care We Care program?

Elara Caring’s skilled home health team provides Eye Care, We Care, an in-home care program designed specifically for patients with low vision. The goal of Eye Care We Care is to improve patient function and quality of life, focusing on preventing accidents and injury. Elara Caring’s occupational therapists teach patients how to use their remaining vision more effectively by incorporating techniques and adaptive equipment to maintain independence and safety at home.
