Hospice Foundation Helps Families in Need: Meet Lenny and Liz
The Elara Caring Hospice Foundation supports in-home hospice patients and families in the communities we serve. Through the generosity of donors, the foundation is able to offer patients assistance with much-needed supplies or services.
East Lansing, Michigan hospice patient Lenny and his wife Liz are one of the families the foundation has helped in their time of need.
Lenny and Liz moved to Michigan seeking better medical treatment for Lenny. Within a few short months, they learned that those treatments would not benefit Lenny’s health or quality of life. At that time, they made the decision to begin hospice services.
Liz said that it all happened so fast. When Lenny was able to come home, Liz quit working to become his full-time caregiver. They hadn’t anticipated that financial burden so soon.
Lenny talked to his care team about how he didn’t want to leave his wife with a huge bill for his cremation. The thought of being unable to help Liz through this situation was weighing on him.
That’s when his Elara Caring social worker, Amanda, reached out to the Elara Caring Hospice Foundation to see if they could provide financial assistance. The Hospice Foundation was able to offer Lenny and Liz the necessary funds for his final wish, alleviating that stress for the family.
Lenny was able to rest easy through his last days knowing that Liz would not be left with a financial burden after his passing. Through the generous support of Elara Caring Hospice Foundation donors, the couple was able to enjoy their final days together in peace.
Special thanks to Liz for allowing us to share this story.
