Scott Powers serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Elara Caring, overseeing the company’s leadership, strategy, transformation, and long-term growth.
Scott has years of experience as an industry leader dedicated to making healthcare high quality, personalized, and consumer focused. Prior to Elara Caring, Scott led Alignment Healthcare as the nation’s fastest-growing Medicare Advantage and chronic disease management company. He also served as the president of health insurance at Cambia Health Solutions, guiding the four-state Regence Blue Cross & Shield into a rapid growth payer.
Before his transformative work in the healthcare sector, Scott built a career driving innovation, quality, and performance excellence as a managing partner at Alvarez & Marsal and a senior executive at Intel Corporation.
Scott has also served on numerous boards and industry associations. He continues to advise companies who are innovating healthcare. He holds both an MBA and BS from W.P. Carey at Arizona State University.
Ananth Mohan serves as President and Chief Operating Officer at Elara Caring, where he oversees all business units, strategic growth, market expansion, and integration across service lines. His role bridges day-to-day operational execution with long-term strategic development as the company scales nationally. Ananth brings 20 years of healthcare experience to Elara Caring.
Prior to joining Elara in 2021, Ananth’s roles included President of Enterprise Operations at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company, and Product Development leader at GE Healthcare.
Ananth holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. He also holds five issued and more than 15 pending U.S. patents in the healthcare technology space.
Hakan Kardes is President and Chief Transformation Officer at Elara Caring, where he leads company-wide efforts to improve performance, evolve the patient and caregiver experience, and scale innovative care models. His work focuses on aligning strategy, technology, and operations to support Elara’s transition toward more personalized, value-based home care.
Kardes is a seasoned healthcare executive with a track record of reimagining operations and driving innovation through cross-functional execution. Prior to Elara, Hakan was Chief Technology & Experience Officer at Alignment Healthcare, where he led transformation across technology, operations, and member experience. He architected AVA, the company’s AI-powered platform, fueling 60% annual growth, industry-leading member satisfaction, and top-tier Medicare Star Ratings across all markets. He also played a key role in Alignment’s IPO and national expansion.
Earlier in his career, Hakan held executive roles at Cambia Health Solutions and Intelius, leading large-scale data and technology transformations across healthcare and consumer intelligence. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Bogazici University in Turkey. He has authored over 15 publications and patents, and was named one of Business Insider’s 30 Leaders Under 40 Transforming Healthcare.
Laura Hamrick brings more than 25 years of experience in human capital leadership to her role as Chief People Officer at Elara Caring. She leads the company’s people strategy, including talent acquisition, organizational and leadership development, HR operations, employee experience and culture. She also oversees Elara’s corporate communications function. Her focus is on creating differentiated team member experience through scalable HR programs and systems that support clinical, operational, and administrative performance and create best in industry jobs across Elara’s multi-state footprint.
Before joining Elara in 2022, Laura served as Chief Human Resources Officer at a start-up behavioral healthcare company that expanded to a national scale. Prior to that, she spent over seven years in progressive HR leadership roles at Yum! Brands, including KFC, Pizza Hut, and Yum Corporate, and led talent management for Yum’s China division while based in Shanghai.
Laura earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Louisville.
John McMahon brings more than 25 years of experience in finance and accounting, including over a decade in senior leadership roles at publicly traded and private equity–backed healthcare companies. As Chief Financial Officer of Elara Caring, he oversees the company’s finance, accounting, tax, treasury, revenue cycle, and procurement functions.
Prior to joining Elara in 2021, John served as Chief Accounting Officer at both Modivcare and BioScrip. He also held senior leadership roles at Option Care Health as Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance, and at Heska as Chief Financial Officer.
John earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Kutztown University and an MBA in Finance from California State University, East Bay. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in the state of California.
Moez Slimi serves as Elara Caring’s Chief Technology Officer, where he oversees the company’s technology strategy, systems architecture, and platform modernization efforts to support scalable, value-based care delivery. He brings more than two decades of experience leading engineering teams and building digital platforms that improve outcomes, streamline operations, and enable better decision-making through real-time data and automation.
Before joining Elara, Moez served as Vice President of Software and Product Engineering at Alignment Healthcare, where he played a key role in developing the company’s proprietary technology infrastructure to support Medicare Advantage operations. His work contributed to the company’s CMS Stars performance, improved member experience, and efficient enterprise-wide coordination. Earlier in his career, Moez held senior engineering roles at loanDepot, Alogent Corporation, and Desert Oasis Healthcare, where he led application modernization, claims automation, and clinical integration initiatives.
He began his career in Europe, where he held software development roles in consulting, media, and publishing sectors. Moez holds a master’s degree in computer science from the National Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in business management from the Higher Institute of Management in Tunis.
Kim Spano brings more than 17 years of sales experience, including more than 15 in healthcare and sales leadership. As Chief Sales Officer at Elara Caring, she oversees sales across the Skilled Home Health, Hospice, and Behavioral Health service lines. Her responsibilities include leading a national team of more than 350 sales professionals, as well as oversight of marketing, sales operations, and training. Kim plays a central role in connecting health systems, physicians, and community partners to the value and quality of Elara’s care offerings.
Since joining Elara Caring in 2015, Kim has held multiple leadership roles in business development and field sales. Prior to Elara, she held positions at Emeritus Senior Living and Gannett, and she worked as a consultant in the private duty home care industry, senior living development, and the nonprofit healthcare and arts sectors.
Kim earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
Betta has more than 15 years’ experience in healthcare governance. As Chief Integrity, Risk and Compliance Officer at Elara Caring, she leads the company’s enterprise-wide compliance, regulatory, legal, privacy & security, safety and risk management functions. She is responsible for ensuring that Elara operates in accordance with federal and state laws, payer requirements, and internal standards—safeguarding both patients and team members across all service lines and geographies.
She has a demonstrated history of building, managing, and scaling dynamic compliance programs in complex healthcare environments. Prior to joining Elara Caring, Betta served as Chief Compliance Officer at 21st Century Oncology Inc. She also served as Vice President at Strategic Management Services, a healthcare compliance consulting firm, and as Compliance Team Lead at ecfirst.
Betta has a Bachelor of Science in Social Policy from Northwestern University, and a Master of Public Policy from The University of Chicago. She is also Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC).
Joe Cramer brings more than 15 years of healthcare experience in finance, operations, and strategy to his role at Elara Caring. He serves as President of Hospice and Palliative Care, and leads ElaraConnect—the company’s platform for strengthening internal service line collaboration and improving patient transitions across Skilled Home Health, Personal Care Services, and end-of-life care. He also oversees Elara’s Business Intelligence and Payor Contracting functions, advancing enterprise-wide reporting and data transparency to support performance improvement in addition to industry leading work with payors to advance value based care through the Elara Caring platform.
In his role, Joe is responsible for day-to-day operations, sales alignment, and strategic growth across the Hospice and Palliative Care service lines. Prior to joining Elara Caring, he held leadership roles in Primary Care, Acute Care, and Medicare Advantage at four successful start-ups that have since been acquired.
Joe earned his master’s degree from the Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore and his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Tom Firmani serves as President of Personal Care Services at Elara Caring, bringing over three decades of executive operations leadership to the organization. In this role, he oversees a workforce of approximately 20,000 caregivers delivering non-clinical, in-home support across multiple states. His leadership is focused on enhancing workforce reliability, optimizing service delivery, and expanding access to high-quality, community-based care for high-need populations.
Prior to joining Elara Caring in 2022, Tom was Senior Vice President of Operations at TridentCare Health Systems. There, he directed four distinct business units across 22 states, delivering mobile healthcare services to skilled nursing facilities, home care providers, commercial partners, and assisted living communities. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly 30 years at Comcast Cable Communications in progressively senior leadership roles, with a concentration on high-volume service operations and organizational scalability.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Management and Operations, from Stockton University.
Kimberly Nystrom, President of Skilled Home Health at Elara Caring, has more than 30 years of experience in legal, contracting, post-acute and home-based care. She leads a multi-state service line with approximately 3,000 clinicians providing skilled nursing, behavioral health, and therapy services to more than 23,000 patients daily across 18 states.
Since Elara’s inception, Kim has been pivotal in integrating acquired home health and behavioral health organizations into a unified care model. She has initiated multiple geographic and start-up operations expanding the skilled division’s footprint year over year. Under Kim’s leadership, the division operates several innovative outcomes-based models for value-based payors and large health systems.

Kim is a registered nurse and licensed attorney. She holds a nursing degree from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and a Juris Doctor from The University of Georgia School of Law.
