Bereavement Support for Families

Bereavement support is a service that can help families prepare for loss of a loved one or cope with the grief they may experience afterward.

Who provides bereavement support?

Elara Caring’s team of bereavement coordinators and chaplains offer grief support to hospice patients’ families. These individuals are trained to provide compassionate listening, guidance and resources throughout the grieving process.

Bereavement support is tailored to meet each individual’s or family’s needs, and services may vary by location. Some services that may be provided are:

  • Anticipatory grief counseling as you prepare for the loss of a loved one
  • Resources like pamphlets, books, podcasts, websites, etc.
  • Online support meetings
  • In-person visits from a member of our team
  • Check-in phone calls and mailings
  • Child-focused tools like grief camp or care kits
  • Hospice keepsake programs, like Holding Hands Forever or Personalize-a-Portrait
  • Referrals to local resources like therapists, grief support organizations and support groups

How long can I receive bereavement support?

Bereavement support is provided for 13 months following the death of a loved one.
